What to Expect During a Routine Dental Checkup
When you visit our practice for a dental examination, we may take digital x-rays to check for any signs of decay or infection that are not visible otherwise. We then perform a thorough evaluation of your teeth and gums. Our providers will perform an oral cancer screening by checking neck and lymph nodes.
During your checkup, we can discuss your at-home oral hygiene routine. Our team members can share product recommendations including toothpaste, rinses, and flossing aids, to optimize your daily dental care. We can also talk about your diet and how acidic foods and drinks can erode your tooth enamel. If you have any additional questions, we are happy to answer them during your visit.
Getting a professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year helps remove plaque that everyday brushing and flossing cannot get rid of. It helps your at-home hygiene routine be more effective between your routine visits, and it plays a big role in periodontal disease prevention.
If we notice that you are experiencing periodontal or gum disease, gingivitis in its early stages, we can perform periodontal therapy. If your symptoms have not advanced to the periodontitis stage, we usually opt for a deep cleaning to treat your gums. This procedure involves both root planning and scaling where our hygienist carefully removes buildup and other debris under the gum line to allow your gums to heal and safely reattach to the teeth.
